Rails or Trails?

A new dilemma that is facing our community – what to do with the miles of train track and right-of-way that has gone unused since the trains were discontinued. Rail enthusiasts are encouraging preservation, as rails can be restored or returned to working condition for tourist trains. Trail enthusiasts are lobbying to remove the rail lines and use them for cycling, running, and the like.

Trail Detour at Folsom Lake

As part of the Folsom Dam Safety improvements, a bike/running/horseback trail is being detoured in the Dike 4 and Dike 5 area. A new trail is being used as the detour, though it is wider than usual.

Earth Day Events in Folsom

Planning on helping out Mother Earth this weekend? Several events in the area are aimed at helping the environment. Trails Day consists of planting trees, clearing paths. The Butterfly Festival hope to clean up the Negro Bar area. Or you can go to your local park and pick up trash.

New Humbug Creek Bridge In

It seems as though every 6 months or so, Folsom is home to a new bridge. Thanks to the work of Folsom City Trails coordinator Jim Kopopka and many volunteers, Folsom’s famous bikeways now have a new bridge over Humbug Creek. Find out where and see the story in the Bee.

$1.2M Bridge to Link Trails

Folsom’s legendary trail system may soon be getting an upgrade, with a pedestrian and bicycle bridge that goes over East Bidwell. Various bridge designs are being pitched to the city and Folsom City Council is expected to vote on the project in December or January. Story in the Sacramento Bee.

Cool Off at Folsom Lake

A wet spring and rising temperatures equates to a lake full of water… and people. Since a few of the parking lots are under water, some people have had to be turned away at Folsom Lake, as there is not enough room for everyone. Every weekend, about 1,400 boats visit the lake. Sunday Farmers Markets Starts in Folsom

Starting Sunday, July 18, the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and El Dorado County Farm Trails Association will be hosting a certified farmer’s market every Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. The market will be located in the parking lot by the historic railroad turntable.
