Dust off the bike or tennies – Wednesday is national “Walk, Bike, Bus to School Day“… if you have been dropping your kids off at school via car, tomorrow is a great opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise!
Folsom Schools Score High
Many people moved to Folsom partly due to the great school system. Folsom did not disappoint, as most of its schools rated highly in this year’s annual performance index. Gallardo Elementary was rated as one of the best in the state.

School’s in Session
Vista Del Lago High School is officially open. Around 630 freshmen and sophomores flocked to campus yesterday, trying to navigate a new campus. The $98 million campus is one of the newest schools in the district.

FLC Booming
Summer enrollment at Folsom Lake College is starting to grow… the summer enrollment has grown 30% over last year. Most students are 4-year students in such schools as Sacramento State and UC Davis. 7.6% came to upgrade or acquire job skills.
Ready Or Not…
Is Vista Del Lago ready? It better be… because 600 new students will be charging in next week, anxious to get the place worn in. Folsom HS Grad Drafted by Astros
David Dinelli, a 2005 Folsom High School graduate, currently playing at Sierra College, has been drafted by the Houston Astros. Dinelli will be reporting to the Greeneville (Tennessee) Astros by the end of the month, and will hopefully make his way up the majors.
Big Change
Ricci Amoruso was a 305-pound freshman at Folsom High – “Big Rick” as many called him. He finds out about the Academy of the Sierras – a high school program for overweight teens. One year and 127 pounds later, Ricci is back, with a renewed life. The Sacramento Bee does a special report called “The Weight”.
Folsom Teacher Fighting Cancer
John Koppel, a Folsom Middle School teacher and father of 2, is fighting cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), which has no known cure. A golf tournament and past fundraiser are being held to help fight the disease.

Parent Awarded $4000 in Booster Dispute
Donna Kinsella, a mother of Folsom High band members, sued Folsom-Cordova School District over what she considers involuntary dues. The district was required to pay her $4,000 in reimbursements for her donation. The nationally renowned music program is supported by Folsom Music Boosters, whose funding makes the program possible.
