Got an older clunker in your garage with 2 flat tires that hasn’t seen the trails since the 1980s? Donate it! Folsom Lake College is accepting bike donations April 11-13. They’ll refurbish the bike and give it to someone in need!
Three Stages Opens Today!
Folsom Lake College’s sparkling new performing arts center, Three Stages, opens today with an official ribbon cutting and open house at 3:30. The first show is Saturday at 3, with a show called “UNVEILED…anything is possible”.
FLC Adding Sports in 2010
Folsom Lake College is planning to roll in an athletic program, possibly starting with tennis in 2010. Cross Country, golf, and water polo follow close behind. Basketball, Football, baseball, and volleyball will come by 2015. FLC’s mascot? The Falcons.
Council Showdown
Candidates running for city council will be meeting for a candidates forum this Thursday at Folsom Lake College. 2 moderators will host the event, which will take place on Thursday the 9th at 7pm.
$500K For FLC
Folsom Lake College recently got a half-million dollar grant for tech programs. The grant program helps the college develop integrated career technical programs in local industries at both the high school and community college level.
FLC Booming
Summer enrollment at Folsom Lake College is starting to grow… the summer enrollment has grown 30% over last year. Most students are 4-year students in such schools as Sacramento State and UC Davis. 7.6% came to upgrade or acquire job skills.
FLC May Get $42M Art Center
Folsom Lake College may soon become a cultural destination – Los Rios Community College District is proposing a $42 Million art center with an 800-seat theater, 200-seat director’s theater, 100-seat recital hall, and an art gallery. If approved, the center would be ready in 2010.
Finally, a “Real” College
Folsom Lake College is no longer a glorified set of portable classrooms. With the addition of 88,000 square feet of facilities, the junior college now feels like a “real college”, with brand-new facilities, and a killer view of Folsom Lake. Folsom to Update General Plan
The city of Folsom will be undergoing a $400,000 update to the general plan, which has not been updated since 1988. The city has grown quite a bit since then, and is expected to reach build out by 2009. Projects such as Folsom Lake College, Empire Ranch Golf Course, Lake Natoma Crossing and the new Folsom High were part of the city’s vision in 1988. More in the Folsom Telegraph.
Folsom Lake College to Be Accredited This Year
Though Folsom Lake College is currently a Consumnes River College satellite campus, the predicted growth of the school has fueled it to become fully accredited, with its first graduating class in May 2004. Four new buildings, including a library and computer science lab will be built over the next few years, and is expected to have an enrollment of 20,000 students by 2012.
