Olympic Artist in Sutter Street
For years, Cao Yong and the Chinese government were at odds over his expressions of artistic freedom. The elusive Olympics Artist was in Sutter Street Saturday, with his work, a rare treat for art lovers and students. Folsom’s ability to draw talent is amazing.
Another Successful Second Saturday
Sutter Street was again hopping with art, wine, and visitors as the monthly Second Saturday Art Walk took place. A great time was had by all, and the next “second” is scheduled for October 13th.

A little-known secret in Folsom is the Second Saturday art walk, a monthly gathering that takes place in historic Sutter Street. A few hundred visitors flock to 8 different showcases throughout the evening, making it large enough to be enjoyable, yet not intimidating.
FLC May Get $42M Art Center
Folsom Lake College may soon become a cultural destination – Los Rios Community College District is proposing a $42 Million art center with an 800-seat theater, 200-seat director’s theater, 100-seat recital hall, and an art gallery. If approved, the center would be ready in 2010.
Senior/Art Center Groundbreaking
From the outside, it’s the old headquarters for the Folsom Fire Department. On the inside, it will soon be a senior art center for the City of Folsom. Ground was broken on the remodel, and the center should be open in spring of 2007.

Gourds Everywhere
The Gourd Festival is going on right now, which is actually a big deal. The West Coast Gourd Festival is going on all weekend at City Park, and thousands of gourd artists will be on hand to sell handcrafted gourds, art supplies, and dried gourds. If nothing else, it’s fun to see what people can do with a dried vegetable!

Former Firehouse Plans Taking Shape
What was once a firehouse next to Folsom City Hall, is now the home to the Folsom Arts and Active Adults Community Center. 10,000 square feet of space may soon be filled by a ceramics studio, public art gallery, among other things. Funding has not been approved for the center, but the budget is sitting at $800,000. Story in the Bee.
Art Center Hits Sutter Street
Now appearing in the former location of the Balcony Restaurant on Sutter Street, Willow Creek Art Center is here with monthly exhibitions of local artists. Classes focusing on classical art methods start this month, where residents can learn about anything from watercolor cards to handmade journals.
