Folsom Annexation Approved

Folsom will soon be 3,500 acres larger. Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission unanimously voted this evening for Folsom to expand its boundaries south of U.S. 50. When developed, plans are for 1,000 acres of open space and wetlands, 120 acres of neighborhood parks, 474 acres of residential construction, and 511 acres of commercial, industrial and office space.Incorporation is expected as soon as February.

Annexation Approved

Folsom City Council voted to bid on annexing 3,500 acres of land south of US 50 on Tuesday night. 30% of the land are set aside for open space, while high-density housing is clustered as the core of the area. A handful of opponents were present at the meeting, while Council member Jeff Starsky was noticably insulted by residents who questioned the plan or asked if they accepted contributions by developers.

South of 50 Plans Firming Up

Plans for annexation south of US 50 are starting to firm up, as the city will be officially bidding to annex 3500 acres of land to the city. The public can comment on the city’s plans on August 2 and August 4, 5-7 at the Community Center. Formal comments are due by September 10.

Annexation Plans Move Forward

A draft Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report has been generated for city annexation south of Highway 50. The plan includes 30% open space, a transit corridor, independent water, expanded trails, schools, and entertainment district. The Specific Plan can be viewed at City Hall.

Public Invited to View S50 Plans

Plans for the South of 50 annexation are under way and public are invited to view them and comment by October 28. Plans show a centralized area concentrated on the opposite side of the freeway from Palladio Mall and Costco. An environmental impact report (quick slide deck) discusses water usage, traffic, wetlands, and other impacts.

City Unveils South of 50 Plans

The city of Folsom unveiled an elaborative master plan for l3,500 acres south of US 50. 30,000 residents and 7,500 jobs would be added to the city, and development would not likely begin until at least 2010. A full report from the city is forthcoming.

Annexation Gets Green Light

Folsom City Council unanimously approved a plan to apply for annexing land south of US 50. About 10,000 new jobs would likely be created due to the growth, and Folsom would increase by about 25%. If approved, it would likely be up to 10 years before development begins. More in The Telegraph

South of 50 Plans In Play

The city of Folsom is pushing forward with plans to annex land south of Highway 50, and under the current vision, it will look very similar to Folsom today, though 150 acres is set aside for walkable communities. It has land set aside for another major employer along the same scale as Intel. Story in the Bee.

Folsom Growth Initiative Thrown Out

A grassroots effort was put together within the last year, in an effort to curb growth south of US 50 significantly. The initiative was aimed to add two lanes to Highway 50, preserve all oak trees, maintain 50% of the land in farming, and requiring voter approval for expansion. The iniative was thrown out, and will not be on the November ballot. Details
