Lieu’s Chinese Restaurant is the newest
addition to Folsom’s growing population of Chinese eateries. Located
on Blue Ravine Road, near the intersection of Folsom Boulevard, it’s
easy to find with its bright red lettering and eye-catching banner.
For easiest access, however, try to come during non-peak hours.
Parking is at a premium, and when we arrived at lunchtime, people
were waiting in line outside. The interior of Lieu’s is also rather
small, although it’s delightfully light and airy.
The restaurant was a beehive of activity this particular day. But
with all of the hustling, the service was a mixed bag. The staff was
very pleasant, but we had to ask several times for things we’d
requested… one of us waited five minutes extra for their meal while
two of us were served fairly quickly.
Lieu’s menu is quite varied and the prices are moderate. “Del the
Delicious Food Critic” pronounced the sweet and sour soup
“excellent” and “snappy”, while the shrimp and spicy garlic sauce
was “adequate”. Two of the three spring rolls were served at
lukewarm temperature. Kelly declared her sweet and sour pork to be
“really great!”; high praise indeed for someone who’s not a Chinese
food fan! The chicken and vegetables were done just the way I like
them, with the right amount of crunchiness.
Overall, we rated Lieu’s a 3, but they could have been having an off
day. Besides, food really is a subjective thing. As Del so
accurately summed it up, “Everybody’s buds are their own!”
