Death Row Coming?

San Quentin is home to a number of death row inmates, including Scott Peterson. However, it is also home to some prime real estate in the Bay Area. If they were to shut it down and sell it, death row would likely end up in Folsom. A $200 expansion is due for San Quentin, however it is being quietly opposed by lawmakers who want San Quentin vacated by 2010. Story in today's Bee.

Rainbow Bridge to be Demolished

In an astonishing turn of events, a minor architectural flaw in the Rainbow Bridge has prompted city council to unanimously approve the demolition of the historic landmark. Architects discovered the flaw when inspecting the bridge for an upcoming lane-widening project. A new, box-like bridge is slated to replace the bridge, though it will likely not be in place until 2010. In the meantime, the city will be forced to use one bridge while the Dam replacement bridge is built. Details (Originally posted 4/1/05)
