Dave Dravecky Comes to Folsom
Former San Francisco Giant Dave Dravecky made a miraculous comeback from cancer in 1988, when half of the deltoid muscle in his pitching arm was removed. Dravecky came back the next year and winning the game in his return to baseball. Though the cancer had eventually taken his arm, Dravecky's story is an inspiration to cancer patients and survivors everywhere. Dravecky will be speaking at New Song Christian Church this Sunday.Labels: cancer

Jill Solberg, 1941 - 2005
Jill Solberg was a teacher, counselor, vice principal, and finally, principal of Folsom High School. Solberg was principal during a time of incredible expansion of the high school, as they moved from a small, 800 student campus to the large, 2,300 student campus now on Prairie City Road. She died of cancer on March 19, age 63. The memorial service will take place on Thurday, 7 pm, at Folsom High School. Story in the Bee.Labels: cancer, Folsom High School, in memoriam, schools

Folsom Cheerleaders Believe!
Cheerleaders from Folsom High School and Folsom Youth Football/Cheer are working together to support a Folsom High School sophomore recently diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. They are selling royal blue “BELIEVE” wristbands to show they believe in a cure, and will wear the wristbands until this student gets the "all clear" from doctors! The Folsom Zoo Loses Brutus the Bear
Less than a year after Ursula the black bear passed away at the Folsom Zoo, her twin brother Brutus has passed as well. Brutus had a history of health problems and had to be put to sleep today, after he stopped eating as a result of stomach cancer. Ursula and Brutus came to the zoo a few years ago when a teenager Justin Barker $25,000 through a fundraiser to build a facility. More is in the Bee and the Telegraph.
