New Spillway OK'd
As part of the Folsom Dam Raise project, the US Bureau of Reclamation and Army Corps of Engineers have signed off on a new spillway for Folsom Dam, which would run parallel to the new bridge, currently under construction. The project will start in October and may go in to 2018 or 2019.Labels: Dam raise, Folsom Dam, Folsom Dam Bridge, Spillway, USACE, USBOR

Bridge Sought Before December 2008
A recent announcement from the US Army Corps of Engineers about a delay in the Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge has ruffled a few city officials. City council members are lobbying to expidite the bridge construction as fast as possible. Dam Improvements Cheaper, Faster
The US Army Corps of Engineers has decided to halt its 'general reevaluation report' on the modification of Folsom Dam for flood control. The dam's modifications are intended to release more water in times of severe storms. The original 2013 completion date is now obtainable again, and is still projected to be within budget.Labels: Folsom Dam, USACE

Prisoners Give Bikes to Community
Folsom Prison has had an outreach program for more than seven years now - minimum-security inmates have been refurbishing old bikes to give to needy children in the area. Over 1,000 bikes have been handed out since the program started. The bikes then go through the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, where they distribute the bikes. New Bridge By 2007
3 years may seem like a long time to wait for a bridge, however that timeline is 2 years sooner than previously expected for a bridge that is slated to replace Folsom Dam Road. The city has been working with the US Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation to speed up the process, as the Dam Road closure has caused a traffic nightmare in Folsom. Cost of Folsom Dam Raise Keeps Rising
The proposed raising of the Folsom Dam by 7 feet has seen its price tag raise $30 million, and now is estimated that it will cost taxpayers almost $250 million. The US Army Corps of Engineers concluded that additional supports and buttresses at the bottom of the dam would need to be created, causing the rise in price. The raise in the dam is still not a done deal, as it is always a possibility to re-engage creation of an Auburn Dam. More in the Sacramento Bee.
