Page & Turnbull Architects has been hired to consult with the city over the impending Sutter Street facelift... the city wants to make sure changes to not hurt the integrity of the historic location. Folsom Electric Breaks Ground
While a bunch of construction is going on with the Railroad Block, just up the street at Sutter and Scott, a 3-story masterpiece is being created. Folsom Lake Bank Opens With $16M
Folsom Lake Bank, the second startup bank in Folsom this year, opened up with $15.9 million, raised by shareholders of the bank. In what may be considered a pre-emptive move on the part of the city, an ordinance is being considered which will expand the scope of what is considered inappropriate business within the city. Lingerie Shop Raises Eyebrows
Sutter Street will soon be getting a new merchant - Ms. Teaz, which will feature hand-made corsets, silky lingerie, and "adult novelty" items. Some are questioning what these said novelities will be, and do not feel it is appropriate for Sutter Street. The annual Taste of Folsom event has morphed of sorts in to a new annual event: Folsom LIVE. Emma's Place Finds a Home
When travelling south on Lake Natoma Crossing, many saw off to the right and old, boarded up house on stilts, and asked what it was. It is Emma's Place, the only 19th-century house still in Folsom north of Sutter Street. It has been a brothel, a school house, a dance school, and a bar. Former Folsom mayor Rodney Carmody, who served as mayor of Folsom in 1978 and 1984, died on Sunday in Folsom. A member of the Folsom Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Sutter Street Merchants Association, and Folsom Historical Society, he was very loved and will be missed. Traffic Calming Underway in Folsom
The controversial tactic of "traffic calming" has been temporarily implemented throughout historic Folsom, causing a logjam through the major thoroghfares of Folsom. Most notably, a diagonal diverter at the intersection of Scott and Sutter Streets. Many motorists have clearly not been happy with the means of discouraging traffic, however many of the residents of the Historic District are finding the solution acceptable. Folsom Rodeo Kicks Off With Cattle Drive
For those of you new to Folsom, you may want to head over to Sutter Street today at 'high noon' for its annual cattle drive thoughout the streets of Folsom. In celebration of the annual Folsom Rodeo, organizers will herd steer from the rodeo down the streets of Folsom from city park to the Chamber of Commerce. The city's plans to build a parking structure on Sutter Street is not getting favorable reviews from business owners and neighbors. Even though the land is not for sale on the market, the city could esentially take it via eminent domain, according to Joe Luchi, the city's economic development coordinator. The property owner and several business owners in the area are not impressed by the city's proposal. More is in the Bee.

Sutter Street Parking Garage Proposed
Residents of the Historic District of Folsom may be interested in knowing that the city is looking at building a parking garage across from the railroad block area. Currently, the Sutter Street area is always jammed during events such as Thursday Night Market, and a parking garage may help. But at what price? The Sacramento County Department of Airports is looking to expand traffic to and from Mather Field, despite the widespread criticism from Folsom and El Dorado residents that current flight paths are too low and too frequent. FAA officials and air cargo representatives will be on hand September 19th at Sutter Middle School to field your questions. Mather Field Noise a Sore Spot For Many Residents
Planes flying in to Mather Field over Folsom and El Dorado Hills is a very common occurrence - so common that residents are beginning to speak up about the noise and how low they actually are supposed to be flying. FAA officials and air cargo representatives will be on hand in the next 2 town hall meetings, on September 19th and 26th at Sutter Middle School and the El Dorado Hills Community Services District Pavilion, respectively. It's Rodeo Time!

Folsom Looks to Increase Tourism
Folsom has had little problems filling hotel rooms during the business week, however vacancy rates on the weekends are something the Folsom Tourism Bureau wants to improve upon. Folsom is looking to make the city more of a destination to residents of the Bay Area and other areas. Folsom's proximity to the gold country, rafting areas, as well as historical hotspots such as Sutter Street, the Folsom Powerhouse, and Folsom Lake to name a few, are making the city an attractive option on the weekends.
