Morin/Howell Named Mayor/Vice-Mayor

Affordable Housing Questioned

City Council has mixed emotions about how its quest for affordable housing is shaping up. Some developers are purchasing current developments and slating them for affordable housing, which is raising a few eyebrows. Council Members Morin and Howell feel this is a disproportionate way of clustering the affordable housing within Folsom. Story in today's Bee.

City Council Borrowing Money to Build Library

One year after Folsom residents voted not to have a special tax just for a city library, Folsom City Council decided to borrow the money needed and dig in to the city's general fund to pay for it. After learning that chances of getting a state grant were slim with the statewide budget crisis, residents will still pay for it one way or another. Kerri Howell was the sole member of city council who opposed this decision. More is in the Bee.

It's Down to the Wire

The polls are closed and it's time to start tabulating results... early reports show that Miklos, Howell, & Morin are the front-runners for Folsom City Council, Measure P is passing at 53%, but the biggest surprise so far is the governor's race. Bill Simon and Gray Davis differ from only a couple percentage points so far, with Davis now holding a slim margin. Follow the results here.

How Your City Council Candidates are Raising Money

Andy Morin, a challenger to the city council openings, has decided that rather than accepting contributions from outside sources, he'd fund his campaign on his own, putting up $12,000 of his own money. Incumbent Steve Miklos has brought in almost $11,000 from various places, including building and development interests. Other candidates who accepted contributions from developers include Kerri Howell and Nancy Mitchell. To check out where all the candidates got their money, see Sunday's article in the Bee.

Cyndi Dow Not Seeking Re-Election

The candidates for City Council have been announced, and 9 people will be seeking seats, 2 of them incumbent. Cyndi Dow, a current City Council member and past president of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, decided not to see re-election after 4 years of service. Kerri Howell and Steve Miklos, both members of the current city council, are seeking new terms. City growth seems to be the focus point for most candidates. Full Story in the Sacramento Bee.
