Sgt. Kyle Dayton 1985-2007
Local soldier Sargeant Kyle Dayton was killed while serving in Iraq. Sgt. Dayton was in a logisitcs assignment when his vehicle exploded unexpectedly. The accident is under investigation. Former Folsom Resident Killed in Iraq
Private First Class Alejandro "Alex" R. Varela, an Orangevale resident who spent some time in Folsom, died from a roadside bomb, on May 19. He was 19. First Sgt. Michael S. Barnhill, 39, died this weekend when a roadside bomb hit his vehicle. Welcome Home, Maria McClure
21-year old Folsom soldier Maria McClure returned home from Iraq, a Folsom High homecoming queen-turned National Guard soldier who spent the last year or so supporting our soldiers. She's witnessed the horrors of war and even survived a roadside bomb, though she is most proud of what she has done for the people of Iraq such as helping schools and rebuilding sewage systems. New Plans For Folsom Library
Even though voters turned down a proposed library bond for a new library, supporters of the Folsom library have put together some cost-effective alternatives to adding more space for books and library offices. The new plan looks at moving the library to the current Folsom Fire Department headquarters. The Fire Department is moving in this summer. More is in the Bee.

Folsom Homecoming Queen Now in Iraq
Maria McClure, a 20-year old Folsom High graduate, is now on her way (or already in) to Iraq to support the troops. McClure, a National Guard soldier, is one of the 15% of female troops in the war, a considerable jump since Desert Storm. The 2001 Homecoming Queen is specially trained to drive a Humvee, and may or may not be serving directly in operation Iraqi Freedom. Thousands Rally For Bush & Troops
Thousands of supporters of President Bush and our troops overseas rallied at the capitol today, one of over 400 cities across America with similar rallies. With 70% of the nation in support of the nation's War on Iraq, many decided to speak up against the aggrssive anti-war protestors in San Francisco and across the world. It's a First Dog's Life
While the President and First Lady are busy solving the world's problems, the Bush dogs, Spot and Barney, seem to have it made. Iraq, terrorism, and the economy don't seem to bother Barney one bit... give him a Christmas ornament and he's a happy camper. Check out the White House's "BarneyCam" video, which features Laura Bush's dog running around the Oval Office, and well, being a dog. (Requires RealPlayer)
