* Folsom Dam is taller than the Statue of Liberty.
* The tower crane operator earns the highest pay of all workers on the Folsom Dam bypass bridge construction site.
* The Historic District Parking structure, due to open in March or April, will provide free parking for 317 vehicles and secure bicycle storage for light rail riders and Historic District visitors.
* Folsom now has 257 miles of streets, 7,098 street lights, 90 traffic signals and 197 miles of storm drains.
* The American River Water Education Center was moved to its new locations in one piece with all exhibits intact during the early stages of the bridge construction process.

Eric King Selected as Mayor
Eric King was selected as mayor for 2008 on Tuesday; his term is effective immediately. Steve Miklos was also selected as Vice-Mayor. New Spillway OK'd
As part of the Folsom Dam Raise project, the US Bureau of Reclamation and Army Corps of Engineers have signed off on a new spillway for Folsom Dam, which would run parallel to the new bridge, currently under construction. New Bridge Breaks Ground
The new Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge has officially broken ground, and they expect to have it finished by the end of 2008. Residents and commuters alike will certainly appreciate the fast (by bridge construction terms) expidition to complete construction, as the Dam Road closure has snarled traffic throughout the city.

2006 in Review
Folsom had a very busy year - the Zoo went through an expansion (with more coming), the new bridge is making progress, and the railroad block was approved. Dam Bridge Passes Next Steps
In what seems like an endless array of steps towards getting a new bridge approved, Senate Bill 1536 is allowing the city to purchase 14 acres needed for bridge construction. After the environmental impact report is approved, next steps are getting bids for the project.

Bridge Over Troubled Water?
The Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge hit a minor snag last week - though the project is still on, some at the US Bureau of Reclamation even questioned the need for the bridge. It was an unsettling comment to say the least. The bridge is expected to be open by December 2008.

Bridge Sought Before December 2008
A recent announcement from the US Army Corps of Engineers about a delay in the Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge has ruffled a few city officials. City council members are lobbying to expidite the bridge construction as fast as possible. New Bridge May Hit a Snag
The Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge is currently being "fast-tracked" to a 2007 opening, however a design issue with the Folsom Dam raise project may pose a problem. A new spillway may be needed for the Dam, which would be perilously close the the bridge. Vice Mayor Andy Morin feels the bridge can be modified, however, to accomodate the design issue. Dam Road May Be Off the Table
Many were very excited to hear that the federal government gave the "thumbs up" to re-open the dam road. Unfortunately, Placer & El Dorado officials are unwilling to pony up some of the money to re-open it. The Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge has now become the priority. Meanwhile, the skyrocketing costs of the Folsom Dam raise have brought the discussion of Auburn Dam back on the table.

Dam Road Approved to Re-Open
Commuters and many Folsom businesses have been grateful about the decision from the federal government to re-open the Dam Road during commute hours. Pending funding for the project, the road will be opened up in early 2006 after installing new security measures, and may require a $2-$3 toll. Dam Bridge Routes Proposed
The new Folsom Dam Road replacement bridge has unveiled its likely alignments - 4 different paths that start around the entrance to the current Dam Road, and aligns next to Folsom Prison property. New Bridge By '07
In what is considered a very quick turnaround time, a replacement bridge for the Folsom Dam Road may be built and open by as soon as 2007. Though this is at least 3 years away, this is a short time frame in the scheme of things. The new bridge will be 4 lanes, with bike and pedestrian crossing as well. It is quite contingent on the passing of renewwing Measure A, a tax which has been in place since 1988. Details

Folsom Bridge Bill Rejected
A slight blow to the Folsom Dam Bridge was given to the city, as the Senate Transportation Committee rejected a bill which would have sped up the construction process. 3 years may seem like a long time to wait for a bridge, however that timeline is 2 years sooner than previously expected for a bridge that is slated to replace Folsom Dam Road. The city has been working with the US Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation to speed up the process, as the Dam Road closure has caused a traffic nightmare in Folsom. Help on the Way For Traffic
It may take a while to build, but the funding is about to be passed for a new 4-lane bridge replacing Folsom Dam Road. President Bush is expected to sign the 2004 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill, which includes a new bridge for Folsom. Folsom Dam Raise and Bridge Deal Imminent
The US House of Representatives subcommittee has unanimously approved a bill for the raise of Folsom Dam, which includes a bridge which would replace the Dam Road. If approved, this would put to rest a longstanding feud between Representatives Doolittle and Matsui over flood control measures.
