Folsom Lake
is perhaps the most popular of all attractions in the city of
Folsom. What's not t o like? Miles of beach, an endless supply of
coves, 5 spots
to launch a boat, and fresh water so clear, you can
sometimes see to the bottom. If you are a boat owner, Folsom Lake is
probably your home away from home in the summertime. You don't have
to own a boat however, if you hike, bike, camp, fish, picnic, or
just like to sight-see, Folsom Lake is a great place to do it.
The best times to
visit the lake are generally April through September. The
temperature can get pretty hot (100+ at times), although it usually
is very dry as well. Make sure you bring some sunscreen and sandals,
as the terrain is pretty rocky.
If you're
looking to camp at Folsom Lake, you'll want to reserve a spot ahead
of time by calling 1-800-444-7275. Once you have reserved a
campground, they are first-come, first-served, so you may want to
head out from work a little early on Friday to get the best spot
If you're just looking for a great day at
the beach, the best places to do it are Granite Bay or Beal's Point.
Both are open from 10-7 every day and includes various amenities,
such as bike trails, snack bars, and overnight camping. As with
boating, the water level varies from month to month, depending on
the amount of rainfall in the wintertime. Usually by October, the
water level is too low for boating, although it usually is very good
throughout the summer.
