The need for a
bridge going over the American River has been around since the
Folsom Dam was built. The Folsom Dam Road was originally intended as
a service road, however the increased demand for its daily usage as
a commuter road warranted it to be opened full time.
After 9/11, the "Dam Road" was closed,
causing serious traffic issues within the city of Folsom. A new
bridge is being planned and "fast tracked" to try and have it built
by 2007 to alleviate Folsom residents' and businesses traffic woes.
The following articles surround the progress of the bridge's
funding, planning and construction.
