8 Hurt in Firework Mishap

One of the fireworks from today's rodeo show exploded in the crowd, hurting at least 8 people. All were treated on scene for minor burns. The Folsom Rodeo continues until July 4.

Bullipedes & Cattle!

The first annual Running of the Bullipedes was a big success, as a few hundred runners ran down Sutter Street in costumes, to the delight of the big crowds. Later, the annual cattle drive made its way down Sutter Street after a bit of anticipation. A few dozen steer ended the annual event which included marching bands, floats, and horse-drawn carraiges.

It's Rodeo Time

Get ready, because the bulls are coming! An annual Folsom tradition returns with the 49th Annual Folsom Pro Rodeo. The event kicks off on Wednesday July 1 - the "Bullipede" runners (including yours truly) will run down the street, followed by the cattle drive on Wednesday at 6pm. The Folsom Rodeo is July 2-4, 2009.

Lions Club Care Packages

Folsom Lake Lions Club is soliciting residents to help out with care packages for the troops. They are asking for things like baby wipes, foot powder, eye drops, paperbacks, AA batteries, chapstick, and crosswords. Dry foods (no chocolate) like powdered drinks, spics, and chec mix are appreciated too. Drop them off at Marchant & Montrose by Julu 15!

Accident Kills Folsom Woman

A solo car accident claimed the life of Folsom woman Kathy Wood, and put her husband Kent in the hospital with serious injuries. Their vehicle flipped on Highway 50 Friday night for an unknown reason. She leaves behind 6 children.

2 Fired Officers Suing

Former officers Carl Siegler and Brian Unden were fired following a Chico sting operation, after the officers allegedly acted inappropriately with college-age women. The officers want their jobs back, back pay, and legal costs.

If you have fruit trees or grow veggies, chances are you have more than enough to go around. Next time you are looking for somewhere to take them, give Twin Lakes Food Bank a call. They get lots of canned food donations but need fresh food as well. They'll even come and pick your trees if you can't!

Firecracker Run Needs Volunteers

EDH Teens Arrested for Murder

14-year-old Tylar Marie Witt, and 19-year-old boyfriend, Steven Paul "Boston" Colver, were wanted for murder, and were arrested at a San Bruno mall. Witt's mother was found dead on Monday in her Tattinger Court (El Dorado Hills) home; Their vehicle was found in San Francisco.

Folsom's Cattle Drive just got a little wackier - the first-ever "Bullipede" run will include teams of 5 running a mile tethered together! Everyone who runs gets a t-shirt, and prizes for the fastest and best costumes. Entry fee is only $50.

Folsom Lake Crossing Closures

Folsom Lake Crossing will be closed at various times starting June 15. Construction crews need to blast rock for the Spillway project and are closing it for safety. The closures are expected to last around 35 minutes on weekdays starting at 1:30 pm.

Skating Rink Up In Air?

Organizers have informed MyFolsom.com that the return of the ice skating rink next winter is currently iffy... Folsom city council is still undecided on whether to bring it back. Do you like having the rink? Does it add value? E-Mail city council and let them know your thoughts.

Outsider's View of Folsom

What does an outsider think of Folsom? The San Francisco Chronicle sent someone out for a day trip and was pleased with Folsom's charm. Hacienda patio customers seemed "most of whom seem to be 10 minutes of sunshine from abandoning all plans and ordering a few more margaritas"... cheers!

Free Concert Tonight!

Soccer Clinic to Benefit Local Resident

New Name, New Look for TNM

Thursday Night Marketplace has a New Name, New Look. The first of the twelve evening events starts this Thursday to the end of August, from 6pm to 9pm. Each event is a mix of entertainment, heritage craftsmanship and art. Street performers, live theater, and a kids zone are all part of the fun!

Cal-ISO Breaks New Ground

Cal-ISO is officially breaking ground on new facilities off of Iron Point Road today. The $160 million facility will include many amenities, including increased security. Cal-ISO is a non-profit responsible for controlling and and monitoring the operation of electrical power throughout the west coast.

Is it time to change this monument? A local activist thinks so. A subtle reminder of the gold rush can be found at the Mormon Island relocation cemetery. An African American mining camp cemetery was relocated during the dam construction, but the camp name was under a different name back then.
