FIDO Hosts First Fun Walk
FIDO (Folsom Independent Dog Owners) held the first of what will become a monthly walk on Saturday, January 20th. 47 dogs were on hand to inspect the future dog park, and the group is actively working to raise $200,000 to build it. The group will also host an upcoming celebrity casino night to raise funds.

Sac Sheriffs to Secure Dam
Since the impact of a Folsom Dam failure could impact the entire Sacramento Valley, the Bureau of Reclamation has decided that the Sacramento Sheriff's Department will now be in charge of securing Folsom Dam. The cost to taxpayers - $4.8 million a year.Labels: Folsom Dam, USBOR

Dam Project Comments Extended
The US Bureau of Reclamation's public comment period has been extended until Friday regarding the Dam project. The popular boat launch Folsom Point (formerly Dyke 8) has been slated for a 7-year closure during the construction, which would likely have a serious impact on businesses and residents alike.

3 Found Dead in Folsom Home
Three people have been found dead at 112 Wembley Court. An employee of Folsom Prison called when 2 co-workers did not show up for work; Folsom Police report that Laurence Moll shot and killed his long-time girlfriend, Bonnie Lathum, as well as her daughter, Teresa Contreras, before turning the gun on himself.

Tragedy on Iron Point
A 53-year old Shingle Springs woman was killed on Saturday, as her car was struck by a Dodge Stealth, by the Folsom Outlets. Police say 2 teens were racing along Iron Point, and have been arrested for vehicular manslaughter. The victim, Susan McNew, leaves behind a husband and 2 children.

Work on Parking Structure Begins
Construction has formally started on a 300-space parking structure set to take place in Historic Folsom, next to the light rail station. Folsom Point Closed For 7 Years?
Congestion at Folsom's boat launch areas may get worse starting this summer. A Folsom resident has read the environmental impact report and learned that the planned Dam improvements for flood control will include closing Folsom Point in the meantime, and possibly other launches. Public comments are due by January 22.

Old Town, New Tenants?
Some historic district residents are not happy about a couple of new neighbors they may be getting soon. A 19-unit apartment complex for people with mental illness, and a 20-person 'transitional housing' unit for the homeless, all within 5 blocks of each other. It would be the highest concentration of such housing outside of midtown.
