Senior/Art Center Groundbreaking
From the outside, it's the old headquarters for the Folsom Fire Department. On the inside, it will soon be a senior art center for the City of Folsom. Ground was broken on the remodel, and the center should be open in spring of 2007.Labels: art

Care to Take the Train to Placerville?
What were once-flourishing railroads are now little more than a distant memory. A local group is proposing to restore the rail line that starts at Historic Folsom and ends all the way up to Placerville. Excursion trains would then take people up the hill on weekends. While few doubt the train would be fun, so far nobody's come up with a price tag.

Know Your Wildlife
Folsom's spreading in to the hills, and not surprisingly, a lot of wildlife is still native to the area. It's not uncommon to spot turkeys, rattlesnakes, even coyotes. More uncommon (but not unheard of) are mountain lions, bobcats, and bears. Would you know what to do if you encountered one?Labels: wildlife

Hidden Gold in Folsom
It's no secret that Folsom's start was that of a 19th century gold-mining community. What is a little-known item is that you can still pan for gold - on the weekends, the interpretive area is open with a blacksmith, gold panning, a settler's cabin, as well as old rail cars. Check it out when you are looking for a weekend diversion!Labels: Light Rail

Intel Folsom Braces for Impact
In what has been anticipated for months, Intel has announced a major round of layoffs on Tuesday - 10,500 company wide, with significant cuts in IT and marketing, both dominant in Folsom. Intel has already let go 5,000 employees, which factor in to the total number of job cuts.Labels: Intel
