What Weather!

Folsom and all of Sacramento have been getting pounded by crazy weather in the last day or so. Hail, strong winds, downpours, lightning, and even a rainbow. It's not over yet... we may even get SNOW! Some weather forecasts are predicting snow tomorrow night as low as 500 feet.

Ms. Teaz has lost its court case with the City of Folsom, in which a judge ruled that the restriction of sex toys sales does not constitute an infringement on free speech. The owner of the business plans on continuing the sales of restricted items.

WiMax Coming to Folsom?

Folsom may be one of the first cities in the US to have WiMax capabilities. Intel is making major investments in WiMax, and is donating a lot of equipment to get it up and running. A single WiMax tower could power wireless connectivity up to 30 miles.

Leidesdorff Ramp to Open?

Lake Natoma Crossing was built with the long-term intention of extending light rail past historic Folsom and up Folsom-Auburn Road. The light rail ramp to the bridge is used only on special occasions, but is being considered to be opened up to traffic for now. City Council will discuss the options at the next meeting.

Intel Plans on Building #8

Already uncomfortably full in its Folsom campus, Intel is pushing ahead with plans to build FM8, which was shelved in 2001 during the fallout of the dot-com bust. The building will hold 1,500 workers, who will mostly spill over from other buildings. Story in today's Bee, Sacramento Business Journal.

More Money Approved For New Bridge

President Bush's recent budget proposal includes $65 million in the Sacramento region for flood control, with money for the Folsom Dam raise and bypass bridge. The bridge is expected to start as soon as March 2007.

Fishermen Scamper as Nimbus Dam Malfunctions

Faulty electronics were the culprit of a recent scare at Nimbus Dam. At around 1 pm on Saturday, one of the 18 gates was opened completely, causing water to rise about 5 feet and downstream fishermen to scurry to higher ground. No drownings were reported.

Morin's First 'State of the City'

Now that Andy Morin has taken over as mayor of Folsom, he took the time to address the city's current state. Expansion south of 50, Palladio Mall, and the Dam bypass bridge were all topics discussed. Full story in the Telegraph.
