The Gourd Festival is going on right now, which is actually a big deal. The West Coast Gourd Festival is going on all weekend at City Park, and thousands of gourd artists will be on hand to sell handcrafted gourds, art supplies, and dried gourds. If nothing else, it's fun to see what people can do with a dried vegetable!

Parking Woes

Folsom Projects Still Up In Air
With the effects of Hurricane Katrina still being discovered, Sacramento area residents are impacted by Federal funding. Levee strengthening, raising Folsom Dam, and the Dam Bypass bridge are all part of a proposed 2006 spending bill. The new bridge may take a backseat to raising the Dam, now that flood control may be a higher priority. DetailsLabels: Folsom Lake Crossing

Folsom Committed to Trees
The greater Sacramento area is well-known for its abundance of trees, so it's no surprise that the valley is favoring adding them. Greenprint is a plan to double Sacramento's tree canopy over the next 40 years, and Folsom has signed on to be part of it. Trees reduce stormwater runoff, encourage more shopping, and of course, provide more shade. Details in the Bee.
