Dam Road May Be Off the Table
Many were very excited to hear that the federal government gave the "thumbs up" to re-open the dam road. Unfortunately, Placer & El Dorado officials are unwilling to pony up some of the money to re-open it. The Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge has now become the priority. Meanwhile, the skyrocketing costs of the Folsom Dam raise have brought the discussion of Auburn Dam back on the table. * More on the Dam Road ClosureLabels: Dam Road, Folsom Dam Bridge, Folsom Lake Crossing

Pony Express Rides Through Folsom
Many do not realize that the historic Pony Express went through Folsom. Folsom was the western terminus along the journey, which started at St. Louis and ended in Sacramento. Trains carried mail from Folsom to Sacramento, though for the re-enactment, mail was carried via horseback all the way. Story in the Bee.Labels: Pony Express

Dam Road Opening to Be Discussed
Now that the Dam road has been authorized to open, the city of Folsom is trying to figure out ways to pay for it with strict security standards. Next week they will be meeting with El Dorado and Placer County officials to discuss sharing the burden of the cost. The meeting will be Monday at City Hall, 10 a.m. Details * More on the Folsom Dam Road closureLabels: Dam Road

South of 50 Plans In Play
The city of Folsom is pushing forward with plans to annex land south of Highway 50, and under the current vision, it will look very similar to Folsom today, though 150 acres is set aside for walkable communities. It has land set aside for another major employer along the same scale as Intel. Story in the Bee. * Annexation Map * More on the South of 50 expansionLabels: Intel, map, South of 50

Historic Bridge Gets Boost
The Orangevale Avenue Bridge, a 90-year old bridge just off of American River Canyon Drive, may have dodged the wrecking ball. The bridge has been made eligible for a state historic registry, since it was part of the original Lincoln Highway. Because of this, the city is considering alternative designs that do not require the demolition of the existing bridge, though it will likely need to be widened to be brought up to modern standards. Full story. * More on the Lincoln Highway * FolsomBridges.comLabels: Orangevale Bridge

Death Row Appears Unlikely
After a recent bill to close down San Quentin was shelved until next year, it all but sealed the fate of California's Death Row, as a $220 million renovation is set to start later this year at San Quentin. If San Quentin were closed, death row and a number of high profile inmates would likely be transferred to Folsom. Story in the Sacramento Bee.

Dam Road Approved to Re-Open
Commuters and many Folsom businesses have been grateful about the decision from the federal government to re-open the Dam Road during commute hours. Pending funding for the project, the road will be opened up in early 2006 after installing new security measures, and may require a $2-$3 toll. The Folsom Dam Bypass Bridge is scheduled to open early 2007. Details in the Bee. * More articles on Folsom Dam Road closureLabels: Dam Road, Folsom Dam Bridge, Folsom Lake Crossing
