Folsom High Music Lawsuit
Donna Kinsella of Folsom, a parent of 3 past band members at Folsom High School, has filed a class-action lawsuit against Folsom High School for past years of band dues. Kinsella claims that she was not legally obligated to pay dues under state law. If this class action lawsuit wins, it may signal the end of the Folsom High music program. Second Thoughts?
Some may think that with all the traffic issues caused by the Folsom Dam Road closure, residents would be happy to hear that the road will be opened again. Not so. In all honestly, residents aren't thrilled about paying a toll to cross the road, especially when it used to be free. The city will soon be polling residents to gauge public support for the temporary re-opening. Details in the Bee.

Dam Road to Re-Open
After many felt that the opening of the Folsom Dam Road was never going to happen, it appears Congressman Doolittle has managed to negotiate a way to open up the Dam Road during commute hours, starting Fall 2005. The road will likely be pay-per-use ($2-$3 each way), and the city of Folsom will pay approximately $6.2 million to pay for security upgrades. Details in TheKCRAChannel.com, Sacramento Bee.

However in the meantime, merchants are seeking help from consultants to boost tourism to the area. Wet Winter Spells For Dam Release
Even though the Folsom Dam is letting out 11,200 cubic feet of water per second, it is still rising. More water is coming in than going out, and estimates are that the lake will be at 85% by mid-May. The wet winter will probably mean a good boating season come this summer. Last year, the lake got as low as 30% after a very dry spring. More in the Telegraph.

Rainbow Bridge to be Demolished
In an astonishing turn of events, a minor architectural flaw in the Rainbow Bridge has prompted city council to unanimously approve the demolition of the historic landmark. Architects discovered the flaw when inspecting the bridge for an upcoming lane-widening project. A new, box-like bridge is slated to replace the bridge, though it will likely not be in place until 2010. In the meantime, the city will be forced to use one bridge while the Dam replacement bridge is built. Details (Originally posted 4/1/05)
