Best in the West? Perhaps
Folsom recently made Money magazine's "Best places to live" in the Western region, population under 100,000 category. Unfortunately, they mysteriously vanished, and some are claiming it's a cover up, as it was omitted accidentally by the print version. The web profile of Folsom still includes Folsom as a "Hot town".

Thumbs Up For Consumer Safety
A tell-tale sign that Folsom is entering the security-conscious 21st Century is "Thumbs Up", a new program in which you are asked to give your thumbprint when paying for a transaction with check or credit card. Several merchants are already implementing the program, such as Dorothea's Christmas on Sutter Street. The aim is to cut down on identity theft, and most people have been receptive to the program. City Gym Application Draws Fire
Despite a new sports complex being built, an aquatic center that is losing $400,000 annually, not enough money to finish local parks, and less money from the state, the City of Folsom is applying for a grant to build a new city gym at Lembi Park. Needless to say, many people don't feel it makes fiscal sense. More in the Bee.

News Flash: Traffic Here Stinks
Though it's no surprise to anyone here in Folsom, many newcomers to the area are finding that traffic here is a problem during rush hour. The closing of the Folsom Dam Road has caused traffic to logjam in to city and residential streets, frustrating residents and drivers alike. Though the funding is in place for a new bridge, it is estimated that we won't see it for another 6 years. See the Bee for Details.Labels: Dam Road

Another Recall?
The Folsom Lions Club and the Veterans of Folsom are so irritated over the city's choice for its new library, they are willing to petition a recall effort to oust the four council members who voted for it. The library location is at a city softball field which was named in honor of a slain Folsom Veteran. The recall would cost the city approximately $100,000. Details
