Traffic Calming to Stay For Now
The controversial tactic of traffic calming has been in place for nearly a month in Folsom's historic district - most notably the temporary closure of several streets. Data is still being collected on the effectiveness (and repercussions) on the measures, so until the data is complete, the measures will remain. Residents of the area have appreciated the measured, however thousands of motorists are not pleased. Another public meeting will take place on September 9 at City Hall. More is in The Bee.

Water Meter Bill Passes Senate
Water Meters may soon be coming to Folsom... and customers will be paying for them. In a statewide affort towards conserving water, a bill is being looked at to retrofit all homes in areas such as Folsom with water meters by 2013. Unfortunately for Folsom, a referendum has already been passed banning such an action, which would likely put Folsom's federal water supply at risk. AB 514 must now go through the Assembly before ending up on the governor's desk. More in the Bee.

Mama Ann's Italian Market, voted Best Sandwich Shop by MyFolsom.Com voters in April, will be going out of business. The deli has been a Folsom favorite, however traffic related to the Dam Road closure has caused business to dwindle. In Time Again, Snooks Ice Cream & Candy, and Coffeee Republic have also felt a pinch due to the traffic. More is in the Telegraph.

Water Shortage in Folsom?
With Folsom Lake in our own backyard, it's hard to believe Folsom could ever have a water shortage. With pipeline maintenance looming, it's possible for it to happen. The pieline gets shut off, and we lose our water. Fortunately for Folsom, Roseville, and other areas, a secondary backup pipeline is being considered for such a problem, and now needs to pass the Senate conference committee. Now city officials must figure out how to pay for these water meters. 2 public forum meetings are on the calendar to discuss the issue. More in the Bee.

Mather Noise Pushed to Neighbors
FAA officials are testing out a 120-day trial of Mather flights, bringing them in from the south, as opposed to over Folsom. Now the flights are predominantly over Shingle Springs and Cameron Park, which obviously is not making them very happy. Mather is now at a point where it must re-evaluate its expansion plans, which could double traffic to Mather field in the next 20 years. More is in the Bee.Labels: Mather Field noise
