Parks Will Cost $3.2 Million to Finish Up
One sore spot among many residents of Folsom is that many of the parks in our neighborhoods remain unfinished. Construction mounds and chain link fences surround land that is slated for parks, yet they remain untouched. Well, Folsom Parks & Recreation is aware of the problem, and the first step to finishing these parks up is assessing how much it will cost. $3.2 Million is the magic number, and Vice Mayor Eric King plans on setting up a park renovation fund to help the city get there. Death Row Moving to Folsom???
For the first time since FDR was president of the United States, Folsom Prison may be housing maximum-security prisoners on death row. Folsom city mayor Steve Miklos, Assembly leader Dave Cox, and other local representatives are incredibly opposed to such a move, however the Legislature is taking action to have it happen by 2007. Current inmates serve in San Quentin, however the budget crunch is causing leaders to explore other possibilities. More is in the Bee.

Folsom Hit With Large Vacancy Rates
"If you build them, they will come". Or so they thought.... Folsom is one of a few communities who has built many high-end apartments in the last couple of years, only to see them go vacant. Low interest rates and layoffs at Intel and other high-tech companies are to blame for a large part of the vacancies, as much as 18% in some areas. Folsom has the area's highest average rent, at $1049 a month, compared to a regional average of $868. More is in the Sacramento Business Journal. Labels: Intel

Ixnay to Ornpay
Adult Businesses are not welcome in Folsom, or at least for the time being. Although the ban on adult businesses is not in response to any particular interest or businesses in Folsom, City Council has unanimously decided to put a moratorium on them until the city can look in to how to zone them. Under current law, since there are no restrictions in place for such a business, anybody could have opened one up within the city. More is in the Telegraph. Labels: Folsom City Council

Inspired by the hit TV show "Jackass", a couple of Loomis teens decided to pull a prank, by running around handcuffed in an orange jumpsuit by a rural road. A citizen called the police and soon a full-scale manhunt was ordered, complete with a lockdown of Folsom Prison, a police helicopter, patrol cars, and police dogs. The teens soon realized the err of their ways and ditched the jumpsuit and confessed to a parent. Police were not amused. More is in the Bee, KTVU-2Labels: Folsom Police, Folsom Prison, teens

Where Will We Have a New Library?
The library debate never ends - this time around, the newest wrench in the process is the location. Currently under review is the Folsom City Lions Park at the corner of Natoma & Stafford, where a proposed library may be placed. Fire Station no. 35 is the current location of a future library, after the current building is torn down. At issue is the resourcefulness of tearing down a perfectly good building in favor of a new one. The study for the Park location should take about 4 weeks to complete. More is in the Telegraph.
