Redrum Burger Coming to Folsom
The Davis-based Redrum Burger (not to be confused with Murder Burger), which has locations in Rocklin and Davis, will soon open up shop in the historic Folsom Hotel. This will be the first Redrum Burger which is not exclusively its own restaurant, as it will be served out of the hotel's kitchen. Redrum Burger was previously known as Murder Burger in Davis, however due to copyright infringement, they were forced to change their name. The original Murder Burger owners are still looking to expand in to the Sacramento area. More in the Bee.

To Annex or Not to Annex, That is the Question
Annexing the land south of Highway 50 seems to be a hot topic that nobody really agrees about. Some people favor annexing the land, and feel it's the City Council's decision to do it, while others feel it would be more prudent to fix the problems we already have, and also feel it's the voter's decision whether or not to annex that land. Where do the candidates stand? Read this article in the Bee to find out.

City's Answer to Sewage Problems: Bolt Down the Manholes
The city's policy to bolt or cement down manholes in an effort to prevent sewage spills is raising red flags with many, including Doyle Champlain, a 24-year veteran as sewer supervisor. He has since been moved to utility superintendent, a newly-created position within the city. He had been moved to that position since he testified in federal court that the city covered up a big sewage spill. More in today's Sacramento Bee.

Tsakapolous Buying Land at Feverish Pace
In anticipation of the possible annexation of Folsom south of Highway 50, developer Angelo Tsakapolous has bought 2,400 acres, or roughly 1/3 of the land Folsom proposes to annex. Tsakapolous paid what is estimated as $12 million for the land, which could be worth almost $50 million if the annex goes through. Slow-growth advocates Folsom Families First are trying to field a special election so that the annexation of land would have to be approved by Folsom voters. More in the Business Journal.

How Your City Council Candidates are Raising Money
Andy Morin, a challenger to the city council openings, has decided that rather than accepting contributions from outside sources, he'd fund his campaign on his own, putting up $12,000 of his own money. Incumbent Steve Miklos has brought in almost $11,000 from various places, including building and development interests. Other candidates who accepted contributions from developers include Kerri Howell and Nancy Mitchell. City Council Looks to Prairie Oaks & Willow Springs to Shoulder Almost 40% of Low-Income Re-Zoning
Prairie Oaks and Willow Springs residents are concerned over the possibility of over 51 acres of property being rezoned for low-income housing purposes. The areas specifically are almost 42 acres surrounding Folsom High School, in addition to 10 acres of land near Safeway on Iron Point, directly across the street from Intel, compiling a total of almost 40% of land looking to be re-zoned. Residents are specifically interested about the effects it will have on the high school, as well as the overall concern that the re-zoned land will not be distributed evenly throughout Folsom communities. The next planning commission hearing is October 16, 6:30, City Hall.

Folsom Aims to Draw More Tourism
A newly-formed business improvement district aims to draw more weekend visitors to Folsom. The city has little problems drawing business travelers during the week, however its goal is to draw more weekend crowds, either via direct tourism, or travelers to/from the Lake Tahoe area. A 2% room tax will be added to existing hotel bills to help aid this effort, drawing more than $160,000 in its first year of implementation. More in Sunday's Sacramento Bee.
