Prairie Oaks Elementary Groundbreaking Takes Place
The long-awaited groundbreaking for Prairie Oaks Elementary took place on Friday May 3, at 4:30 PM. Prairie Oaks Elementary will be at the corner of Stewart Street and Russi Road. About 200 residents, parents, and children visited to watch the event, with refreshments served to those who attended. MyFolsom.Com will soon have photos from the event as soon as they become available.
In March, Folsom residents voted on and passed Measure C, which made this much-needed elementary school possible. For more information, please see the Sacramento Bee, or call 355-1100.

WinCo Foods Set to Move In to Folsom
The Folsom Planning Commission has approved by a 6-1 margin a WinCo Foods store at the corner of Blue Ravine and Natoma Station. The controversial project includes a 24-hour WinCo at the center of a shopping complex in a vacant area, and almost resulted in the removal of a 100-year old oak tree. more information can be found in the Sacramento Bee.

More Support for Raising Folsom Dam
Support for raising the Dam by 7 feet is growing. Representative Bob Matsui (D-Sacramento), has vocally expressed support for raising Folsom Dam by 7 feet to decrease the likelihood of a catastrophic flood to hit the Sacramento Valley. If this proposed project is passed, work would begin in 2003, and would cost approximately $219 million dollars. However, John Doolittle (R-Rocklin) has expressed opposition toward raising the dam, in hopes of building an Auburn Dam up the way.
The 2003 water projects bill could be on the House floor by July. For more information, there is an article in the Sacramento Bee.
